A 13-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after she was mauled by two pit bulls at her home last Thursday.

The incident took place shortly after 10pm, through Balls Alley off Shirley Street.

Police said the victim was at home when the dogs attacked her.

The victim’s grandmother and uncle attempted to stop the attack but both received extensive injuries to their arms and legs, The Tribune understands.

They were all rushed to hospital for treatment. At last report, the child’s injuries were listed as critical.

The other two victims were treated for their bites and released.

Animal Control was notified of the attack and the dogs were later euthanised by lethal injection.

Yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said police are not investigating this incident, as no complaint has been made with the police force.

The Tribune attempted to contact representatives from Animal Control but calls were not returned up to press time.

Pit bulls are fighting BREED dogs, not pets. This has become epidemic in the USA. Pit bulls maul, maim and kill more people, pets and livestock animals than all other dog breeds combined. NEVER adopt, dogsit, visit a home containing or walk your dog near a PIT BULL. Stay safe. Choose safe breed dogs for your family pet.

Imagine that? Pit bulls mauled someone and tried their best to kill them. That just NEVER happens, now, does it?!

Pit Bulls and other dangerous breeds should be banned throughout The Bahamas. End of.
