Increase announced in Junkanoo seed funding

JUNKANOO groups in New Providence are to receive large increases in seed funding, with the A groups to get $30,000 and B groups $15,000.

Daniel Johnson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, expressed his joy at being able to distribute seed funding to the various Junkanoo groups and members as promised by the government, the biggest sponsor and investor in the Bahamian cultural art form. Dr Johnson also paid tribute to the sponsors of Junkanoo such as Coca Cola and BTC, and urged other corporate entities to get involved. Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence (JCNP) Chairman Silbert Ferguson announced that seed monies were increased from $8,000 to $30,000 for A groups and from $4,000 to $15,000 for B groups. The 28th annual Junior Junkanoo Parade on Saturday saw Preston Albury High School take the overall honours in the Senior High School Division. Lyford Cay International took the Junior High School title, Tarpum Bay won the Primary School competition and One on One took the Pre-School division.
