THREE former public school students awarded scholarships by Hutchison Port Holdings Bahamas Business Units are doing well and excelling at the Bishop Michael Eldon High School.

Nashon Jones, formerly of Jack Hayward Junior High School, Charlencia Forbes, formerly of Eight Mile Rock High School and Samia Rampersad, formerly of Sister Mary Patricia Junior High School, have completed their first semester in good academic standing.

Sophia Howden, vice-principal of Bishop Michael Eldon High School (BMEHS), reported that the students are making A and B grades and are keenly focused on their academics.

She said: “A wonderful plus to the good grades they are making is their strong character and discipline. BMEHS has tough academic standards and Jones, Forbes and Rampersad are demonstrating early that they are deserving of Hutchison’s generous support.”

The transition from junior high has been a smooth one for the students, who thanked their teachers, the entire staff and fellow students for their support.

Mothers Shamricka Jones and Monique Rampersad are very proud of their children and said the opportunity for them to attend BMEHS has been a life changing experience.

Students throughout the island were invited by HPH Bahamas Business Units to submit biographies and their vision earlier this year to compete for the scholarships.

Committee members reported a significant number of entrees and said the selection process was tough because, not surprisingly, the students presented some very impressive items. The recipients were selected this past summer and enrolled at BMEHS in September.
