POLICE are on the hunt for a man who stabbed his brother-in-law early on Tuesday morning during an argument allegedly over "food".
The murder took place shortly after 6.30am in Yellow Elder Gardens. It was the fourth homicide in four days and brought the country's record annual murder count to 147 for 2015, according to The Tribune's records.
Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, Superintendent Paul Rolle, said the 20-year-old victim was at home when he became involved in an altercation with the male relative.
"According to our information, the man got into an argument with the male relative at the home over some food item and it escalated. The victim left the home shortly before 7am to walk his wife to work when the male relative followed him outside and continued to argue with him," Supt Rolle said.
"The suspect pushed the victim, the victim pushed him back and the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body. The suspect fled the area on foot. The victim died on the scene."
Police have not identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is Deangelo Major, a security officer at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Supt Rolle said police are searching for Lavardo Newton, 30, of Yellow Elder in connection with the homicide.
"We want him to turn himself in and to answer to the allegation made against him. The best thing would be for him to turn himself in before we come looking for him."

Anyone who was following the trend in murders in this country will see that the killings are increasing at an increasing rate. It increased from 127 in 2014 to near 150 at current. If the trend continues, unabated this country will record around 179 murders in 2016. The situation is not one of strangers killing other strangers, but persons killing persons known to them. It is now becoming engrained in our culture that is some one offends you take them out. Persons who tote weapons, knives, guns, screwdrivers, whatever, eventually will be tempted to use them. The ending result will be obvious. There needs to be intervention prior to police involvement a resetting of the mindset of the general population.

We really need to get our emotions in check and the time to do that is not in the moment someone makes you angry. You plan your reaction in advance. If someone steps on my shoe what will I do, if someone cuts me off in traffic what will I do, if someone eats the pie I left in the fridge what will I do. If someone gets mad because I rap to their girlfriend what will I do? If that annoying coworker does what they always do, how should I respond? What is the thing that easily besets me? Should I shoot or stab anyone over any of these things? Am I willing to spend years in prison for any of them?
Our problem is we've been groomed in the art of, how to escalate from 0 to 100 for too long. "If anybody disrespect me dey guh know". Think about it, our young men, and now young women, walk around prepared to respond violently to the slightest provocation. And 147 murders is our reward

Further to what John wrote, the amazing thing is how quickly we as a society have escalated to weapons and lethal violence against kith and kin, for the sake of food. Food, for crying out loud. What does that tell you about society? In a land of plenty, nobody gets killed for food. Not your brother-in-law for sure.
Once people's attitude transitions to weaponry,violence and murder, there is no turning back unless it is done with extraordinary means. The socio-economic fabric of the Bahamas is truly destroyed.
