Immigration

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I don’t have much to say today; only that it would be my wish that under the (new) immigration rules being touted in recent times requiring all non-Bahamians to have a passport with a residency stamp within it, that the rules do not dictate that these persons should have this passport on them at all times, especially children.

A passport is an important document and should always be kept in a safe place until it is needed. And to be forced to travel around the streets of Nassau (or whatever island you are on) with your passport is not the best security plan that you could have for it. Furthermore, that would mean that ALL Bahamians would have to travel with their own passports also. Otherwise, how can apprehending officials tell the difference?

I just made a photocopy of the info page of mine, and had the photocopier on reduction 77%. Then cut it out of the whole page, so it is just a small paper about 4" x 2 1/2" , and then I have that folded in my wallet. That way they can see the name, the issue date, and the passport number - so they can call the passport office if they want.

Yes, leave the original at home. Keep a copy in your wallet/purse/glovebox of car - etc.

Thank you. Let them not carry it ( or at least some proof ) during this heightened time when immigration officers are ready to carry ya hip. A word to the wise is sufficient.
