It was a busy day four in the 2015 Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic which featured an early start and the first round of eliminations in this year’s tournament.

Temple Christian Suns - 49

British West Indies

Collegiate Spartans - 36

The visitors got a harsh taste of Bahamian hospitality as they were eliminated from the field after a loss to a second Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools opponent.

Shaden Boteng led the Suns with 15 points and nine rebounds while Diargo Smith finished with 15 points and D’Casin Armbrister chipped in with nine points.

Mhyron Pereira led BWIC with eight points while Quinn Higgs and Lawrence Saitange both finished with seven.

The Spartans shot just 28 per cent from the field, 41 per cent from the free throw line and scored just 10 points in the paint.

The Suns on the other hand, shot 41 per cent from the field, 67 per cent from the line and scored an overwhelming 36 points in the paint.

Both teams set the pace for a sluggish turnover probe game in the first. They had just six field goals between them in the period and the Suns took a 7-4 lead after the first.

The visitors actually outscored the Suns in the second quarter, came within a single point, but could not get over the hump and take the lead.

When they opened the period with a pair of baskets, Saitange’s basket made it 9-8 at the 4:23 mark.

The Suns responded with four points of their own to increase the lead to five, and eventually took a 15-13 lead into the half.

BWIC would take their first lead of the game in the third quarter when Higgs split a pair at the line for a 16-15 lead, but it would be short lived.

TC responded with a 13-2 run to take control of the game for good.

Armbrister made a pair at the line to give the Suns a 29-18 lead with 39 seconds left to play in the period after the Spartans would manage just six points.

Both teams had their highest scoring output in the fourth quarter and the Suns’ lead grew to as much as 21 en route to the lopsided win.

BWIC lost in their tournament debut on Tuesday to the Queen’s College Comets, 42-21.

Prince William Falcons - 48

Mangrove Cay - 36

It was the second matchup for the Falcons against an Androsian team and it produced the same result as the Falcons eased their way to another win by double figures.

The Falcons overcame an atrocious offensive start, but allowed just 12 points over the second and third quarters for the come from behind win.

Jefferson Oliver led the Falcons with 12 points, Donovan Gray added nine and Rhandon Scott finished with eight.

Quinton Pennerman finished with a game high 19 points and seven rebounds for Mangrove Cay while Keito Robinson scored eight points.

The Falcons were held without a field goal in the first quarter, and Mangrove Cay closed the period on an 8-0 run to take an 11-3 lead.

There would be a complete role reversal in the second quarter as Prince William outscored Mangrove Cay 11-5 in the period to pull within two.

Pennerman opened the quarter, but Mangrove Cay would end the final four minutes of the quarter on a scoreless drought.

In that timespan the Falcons closed the gap (16-14) at the half.

In the third, Oliver gave the Falcons their first lead of the game, with a driving layup, that made the score 21-20 at the 2:30 mark in the quarter. They took a 26-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Their lead reached as much as 15 in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons had a 14-point advantage in the paint (36-22) and nine-point advantage off turnovers (18-9).

CI Gibson Rattlers - 70

Central Eleuthera - 45

The defending champions continue to look every bit the part, and with the absence of the Grand Bahama teams, look like a mortal lock to be in a favourable position to repeat.

The Rattlers scored a 25-point drubbing over Central Eleuthera in the opening game of last night’s session.

Johnley Noel led the Rattlers with 18 points, Michael Sweeting added nine and Shakwon Lewis chipped in with nine points and four assists.

Anderias Black was the lone bright spot for Central Eleuthera with 20 points and 16 rebounds, both game highs.

Central Eleuthera actually opened the game scoring the first five points, but in just under two minutes, the Rattlers would move ahead for good with a 9-0 run.

The first quarter lead would quickly grow to 10 when Wilber Serphin made a layup with 13 seconds left to play and gave the Rattlers a 19-9 lead.

Noel’s three pointer early in the second quarter gave the Rattlers a 15-point lead (24-9) and another just minutes later gave CI Gibson their biggest lead of the first half, 29-10.

The Rattlers’ full defensive prowess was on display in the third as they scored 23 but allowed Central Eleuthera just seven points. They took a 35-21 lead into the half when Rakeem Minnis made a free throw with 21 seconds left in the quarter. The lead doubled in the third quarter and grew to 30 (58-28) headed into the fourth.
