Pedestrian dies after being struck by car

The 53-year-old pedestrian struck and killed in Eight Mile Rock has been identified as Fletcher Minnis, of Jones Town.

Minnis was walking in the Jones Town area around noon on Wednesday when a black 2000 Infinity struck him. The woman driver was travelling west on Queens Highway.

Inspector Terecita Pinder said EMR police went to the scene of the accident to investigate. Minnis was taken by EMS personnel to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

She said investigations are continuing into both incidents.

A MAN is in hospital following a shooting incident in the Eight Mile Rock area on Thursday, police reported.

According to reports, sometime after noon police received information that a man had been shot on Queens Highway by a lone gunman, wearing a black hooded jacket.

The victim was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
