Garden named after leading nurse

THE Sandilands Circle at the Rehabilitation Centre has been renamed in honour of the late Adrella Gibson, one of The Bahamas’ most decorated and qualified psychiatric nurses.

At a ceremony hosted by the Public Hospitals Authority and Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre yesterday afternoon the Circle was officially renamed “Drella’s Dream” after the Senior Nursing Officer, who died in August 2012. Nurse Gibson was adamant that the clients’ clinical experience should complement the outdoors and provided a blueprint for developing therapeutic environments throughout the grounds.

Nurse Gibson enjoyed a successful career as a psychiatric nurse and nurse manager and in 2012 she received the PHA’s Manager of Year Award, the authority’s highest recognition for a staff member in a leadership position.

Drella’s Dream will provide “a beautiful landscaped, furnished, sensory garden to facilitate the restoration of individual lives, family relationships and the healing of the nation”, according to a statement from the Centre.
