Cybots top Pros 81-73, Cheetahs stop Cybot Queens 62-58

IT was a double header in night league basketball action this week with games in both the men’s and women’s leagues.

THE Cybots kept pace in the Vince Ferguson division, two and-a-half games behind the leading Real Deal Shockers. Delvonne Duncombe led three Cybots in double figures with 19 points and 7 of 14 shooting from the floor.

Eugene Bain finished with a double double - 17 points and 12 rebounds - Brian Bain added 17 points and Codero Seymour chipped in with nine points off the bench. Jason Mitchell Jr paced five Pros in double figures with 16 points.

Kevin Wright Jr and Adorn Charlow each finished with 15 points, Livingstone Munnings added 11 and Derek Ferguson scored 10 off the bench. The Pros fell to .500 with an 8-8 record.

The first half was all Island Luck as they led from the opening tip, took a 21-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and 41-36 lead at the half. They led by as much as 12 in the first half when Charlow made a layup for a 41-29 lead with 2:12 left to play.

The third quarter was a complete turnaround when the Cybots held the Pros to the lowest scoring quarter of the game and outscored them 26-15.

A nine-point lead at 8:06 was erased with a 12-3 run when the game was tied at 50 on a Duncombe three pointer at the 4:43 mark. The Cybots took their first lead of the game on the ensuing possession with a layup from Seymour. They would eventually take a 62-56 lead into the fourth and won the final quarter, 19-17.

THE Cheetahs overcame a paltry shooting second quarter and erased an 11-point first half deficit en route to the win.

Phylicia Kelly led the Cheetahs with a game high 21 points and nine rebounds, Linda Pierre added 16 points and 14 rebounds while Jurelle Nairn finished with seven. Tracey Lewis led the Cybots with 15 points and Malesha Peterson finished with 10.

Tied at 16 after the first quarter, the Queens ended the half on a 12-3 run to take a 34-23 lead at the half. They outscored the Cheetahs 20-7 in the second quarter. The Cheetahs trimmed the deficit 44-39 headed into the fourth, but a dominant performance in the final frame keyed the win.
