Gymnasts bring home medals

THE Nassau gymNastics has congratulated its athletes who participated in the Presidential Classic and the Magical Classic Gymnastics meets in Orlando, Florida.

The athletes are shown here with their medals at their gymnastics facility in the Oakesfield Shopping Center where they are trained by head coach Trevor Ramsey, coach Levette Saunders and coach Toneka Johnson.

At the Magical Classic meet, the team took two first place medals, one of which was from six-year old level 2 gymnast Danielle Moore on the balance beam, who scored 9.175 points. Moore also placed second on the uneven bars with a 9.350 score and was tied for third on the vault with a score of 8.300. These placements helped to secure her 1st place overall in her age division. “I am so very proud of Danielle. I have been coaching her for one year now and she gets stronger and stronger each time she competes,” coach Johnson said.

Another first place medal was awarded to nine-year-old Level 3 gymnast Alia Beneby on the floor event where she scored 9.250. Beneby, who only started gymnastics last summer at Nassau Nastics’ Summer Camp programme, also placed fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.150.

Hope Smith also was awarded a fourth place after she scored 8.725 on the vault.

At the Presidential Classic meet, Moore again received two first place medals on the uneven bars and the balance beam and a second place medal on the vault, placing second at this meet with an all-around score of 36.100. Smith took first place on the vault, scoring 9.400 and was fourth on the floor, scoring 9.125.

Rachea Knowles, competing at level 6 for the first time, received a score of 8.725 on the floor and scored 8.900 on the vault, finishing in ninth place overall in her age division.

Also competing internationally for the first time at the two meets was four-year-old Alexandria Moore, who was the youngest gymnast in her age division of 5-6 years old. She did a great job at both meets and had an awesome time competing. Tears only came at the end of the trip when she was told by her mom that it was time to go home and there were no more gymnastics meets the next day.
