FOIA and VAT

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I tried… But I wonder if WE (the Bahamian People) tried HARD enough?

It appears that the demands have gone blatantly ignored... Shame on US not them!

Dear Mr Government, if with the implementation of VAT you will get unconditional access to my books and record keeping without notice then I should have access to YOURS.

If you want to prove that I’m paying my fair share of taxes then I want the ability to prove that you are allocating my taxes correctly and not in the customary irresponsible manner that we’ve seen over the last three decades.

I REFUSE to accept/support VAT or any other tax regime without a Freedom of Information Act being implemented first.

Lack of transparency, irresponsible leadership and a very apathetic populous have created this mess.

Moving forward let’s put the proper mechanisms in place, so regardless of who’s in the seat We The Bahamian People will possess the necessary tools to hold them accountable.

A Freedom of Information Act is a great place to start.

No VAT or anything else until the FOIA has been implemented.

Yes, the government blatantly ignores the demands of the people. Mr. Goff wonders if it is because the Bahamian people haven't tried hard enough. When listening to people I get the feeling that people don't know how to get it to stop. People have become quite vocal in the media and on social media and have been ignored and they don't know what else to do. Perhaps it needs someone to show the way. Or perhaps it needs some crisis or tipping point for someone to step up and lead the way.
