BREAKING NEWS: Hunt for Haitian man who escaped from Detention Centre

By RICARDO WELLS

IMMIGRATION officials are today hunting a Haitian man who escaped from the Carmichael Road Detention Centre late on New Year’s Day.

Initial reports indicate that the man got away after another male, also Haitian, allegedly obstructed efforts to apprehend the escapee. The accomplice, who was on the outside of the facility during the incident, was hit and injured by rubber bullets used to prevent the escape.

Officials at the Centre confirmed that the accomplice was subsequently detained and taken to hospital for emergency care, treated and discharged. He has been detained at the Detention Centre.

Minister of Immigration, Fred Mitchell told The Tribune: "This underlines the seriousness of the immigration matter presently facing our country. It is clear to see that there is a relentless resolve by a number of factions and persons to undermine our country's efforts to combat this issue. This matter speaks loudly to the ordeal that the Bahamas is faced with. I challenge that Bahamians ought to stay resolute and not step back from fighting this issue."

Since he helped in the escape , revoke his status & deport him. Make an example out of him.

While they're at it, please consider relocating that detention centre to another part of New Providence or even another island. That is now a highly populated area although it wasn't when they first started out. Why are illegal immigrants even been brought to New Providence, where they want to go anyway, where most of the population lives? Ridiculous!

Rubber bullets is the first problem!....Get Serious......Try escaping from the U.S. detention center and see if they shot rubber bullets!

Lock & load real bullets and detainees will begin paying more attention before trying foolishness!

Fred Smith will rub extra coconut oil on his Haitian Voodoo dolls tonight.

It seems as if the Haitians are declaring a revolt in the Bahamas. and Fred Smith to my mind is encouraging them to do so, Haiti does have a history of voodoo and violence and no one can deny that .Not even Fred Smith. They have no respect for the rule of law. Something has to be done. about the influx of illegals. It is becoming a very explosive issue. And Fred Smith is telling them they have rights in the Bahamas . that they do not have. He will do well to encourage them to respect the laws of the Bahamas.

Instead of selling out our uninhabited cays to rich foreign billionaires , the government should use one of those to build a new prison & detention centre , also build a defense force base there & let see if that won't solve the escape problem. I bet it would.
