High-speed chase and shootout

POLICE are searching for two armed robbery suspects who led them on a high-speed chase and shoot-out on Saturday.

According to reports, shortly after 8pm on Saturday, a man and a woman were at Wellington Road and Christie Avenue when two men armed with handguns robbed them of their 2014 black Kia Sportage and sped off.

A short while later, Mobile Division officers were on patrol on Carmichael Road when they spotted the stolen vehicle.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects sped off resulting in a high-speed chase. The chase ended at Edgar Close off Gladstone Road where the two suspects got out of the stolen vehicle and fired several shots at police. Police returned fire, however the two suspects managed to escape on foot.

Police recovered a handgun containing a quantity of ammunition from the scene.

Investigations are continuing.

Police investigating stabbings

A fight between two friends on Harbour Island ended with one being stabbed with a knife and the other attacked with a cutlass, police said.

The argument occurred just before 11pm on Saturday, when the two men were at Pitt Street in Harbour Island. Police said one man stabbed the other with a knife and the other attacked his friend with a cutlass.

One of the men was airlifted to New Providence where he is detained in stable condition while the other was treated by a local doctor on the island and discharged.

Police also reported another stabbing that occurred just after 3am on Sunday. A man was sitting in his truck at Robinson Road when he was attacked by a group of men who stabbed him several times before fleeing on foot.

The man was taken to hospital where he is in stable condition.

Stolen copper wire

A 35–year-old man is in custody after he was arrested on Saturday for possession of a firearm and copper wire, which is suspected to have been stolen.

According to reports, shortly after 5am, Mobile Division officers were on patrol when they saw two men driving a Nissan Sunny loaded with a large amount of copper wire. The officers brought the vehicle to a stop. While the passenger fled on foot, the police took the driver into custody and later conducted a search of his home, where they uncovered a sawed off shotgun with a quantity of ammunition.

Drug arrests

A 34–year-old man is in custody after he was arrested on Friday and accused by police of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply. According to reports, shortly after 6pm, Mobile Division officers were on patrol at Wilson Track, where they conducted a search of the suspect and found 94 small packages of marijuana in his possession.

Police also reported that two men, 27 and 29, are in custody after they were arrested in Exuma on Saturday and accused of drug possession. According to reports, shortly before 1pm, police in Exuma were on duty at George Town, where they observed the two men acting suspiciously.

The officers searched the two men and found one pound of marijuana in their possession.

The three are all expected to appear in court soon to face formal charges.
