FOR those that may have lost hope and are depressed about their health and fitness, the team behind King’s Get Fit Club have an upbeat new year message, assuring them they can regain their confidence and live healthy lifestyles.

King’s Get Fit Club is dedicated to motivating and inspiring people to achieve their individual health and fitness goals. Assisting women especially, the club offers exercise programmes that guide Bahamians through a safe fitness regime that encourages them to take control of their bodies.

“We are more than a fitness club, a place where women can feel comfortable and everyone is encouraging,” the team states. “We are a fitness family depending on one another to create an atmosphere that helps us look and feel better than we ever could by training alone.”

Operated and run by trainer Katrina King, King’s Get Fit Club began in 2010 offering workouts personally designed for optimum results. Workout sessions are four days a week from 5.30 to 6.30pm at Fort Charlotte grounds.

In an interview with Tribune Health, Ms King said a lot of her clients are stunned upon receiving their results after four weeks.

“Even in the first week people see results but, like I tell people, you are not going to lose it instantly just like that, you have to give it time but they do get a lot of good results within four weeks. I like to show pictures of their four-week progress going forward,” she said.

She said this is important to her because it gives her something to look forward to, knowing that she can help so many people accomplish their weight goals.

“A lot of them are overweight and they come to me for help. I want to give them my assistance in return and that is where I get my joy from. To be honest I was always into fitness. I use to do track and field in school and they would always have the competitions where I would run for the 800m and 100m. Most of my life, that’s what I did really,” said Ms King.

Ms King is also known as a taxi driver, floral designer, seamstress and ceramicist. Before giving King’s Get Fit Club a name, Ms King said she would do personal workout sessions for her own benefit at Fort Charlotte. This soon changed after people heard about her skills.

“A lot of persons were asking me to train them. I was reluctant and didn’t really want to do it. I was just focusing on myself and I remember someone telling me I am being selfish about it. They watched the way I worked out and my techniques so after that I remember working with a client, and when people saw big results in him, they required and that’s where it went on,” she said.

Health and fitness keeps her mind occupied and keeps her level.

“Sometimes you can have headaches, going through a lot of stuff, and exercise tends to calm you down and I notice it works for me. It builds self esteem,” she said.

Having a daughter, Krishna Braynen, with asthma, has been instructive. Ms King said she learned after getting her daughter into exercising that the asthma attacks do not occur as often as they did.

“People think that you are not supposed to exercise with asthma and it gives you a problem - but it actually helps you. I don’t have to go to the hospital for her as often as I used to. Very seldom she has asthma now. I have modified exercises for persons who have any sort of condition. At the same time we do upper and lower body workouts, as well as cardio and circuit training,” said Ms King.

One day she would like to own her own gym but in the short term Ms King wishes to have a bigger clientele in 2015.

“With the gym I want to be able to concentrate on the males as well. I don’t want to be crammed inside a building to be honest but I would like a gym at some point in the future. I also encourage people to not want to lose weight for a particular function, wedding or just a quick fix. I want them to lose it knowing it is a continuous and healthy way to go,” said Ms King.

The King’s Get Fit Club programme includes Designed Full Body workout (Monday); Burn-out Arms/ Abs (Tuesday); Butt/Legs (Wednesday) and Designed Full Body Workout on Thursday. One-on-one consultations are done before entering the group and weekly weigh-ins are taken each week.

Monthly membership is $100.00 plus $25.00 registration fee and personal training costs $25 to $35 an hour. For more information, readers can contact the club via Facebook at King’s Get Fit Club 3 or phone 422-5962.
