A look at the preseason All-Grand Bahamian teams

NOW that the 2014-2015 pre-season tournaments have come to a close, people are already beginning to take a look at what’s to come in 2014-15 Grand Bahama Secondary Sports Athletic Association (GBSSAA) senior boys basketball season.

As always, figuring out who the best players in any sport is always up to much debate. Some will agree, some will disagree and others will ignore your argument completely and vent for the sake of venting.

Creating an argument for players is always interesting. Does the person rely on stats alone? Do they use the eye test? Is there bias involved? A lot of factors go into figuring this out, but all are crucial in determining the argument.

As we continue our preview for the 2014-15 high school basketball season, we take a look at the preseason All-Grand Bahamian teams. Two teams split up with five players per team, as per usual.

After watching teams play at least 15 pre-season games, this gives the players, ones that have already accomplished something in the pre-season, their own praise.

With that being said, let’s get to the list:

FIRST TEAM PRE-SEASON

ALL–GRAND BAHAMA

Edriel Martinborough-

Tabernacle Baptist- Point Guard

Why he is here: Martinborugh is a natural point guard in possession of all of the intangibles coaches love.

Daniel Wright- Sunland Baptist-

Shooting Guard

Why he is here: Wright is the type of player coaches salivate over. The coaching staff raves about his talent, presence and work ethic. Mostly, though, his coaches love the fact that he listens and is coachable. If Wright lives up to the expectations set by himself and his coaches, he’ll put up big numbers this season and position himself to be the top players in the league.

Raheem Laing - Tabernacle

Baptist

Why he is here: If you are looking for someone to handle the ball in the most pressurised game situations, Laing is your man. Laing hit two game winning shots in the Arbys Classic in December. Exhibiting great poise and composure, the senior is a calming influence on the court.

Sherman Robinson -

St Georges - Centre

Why he is here:Very agile and versatile with the ability to face up, drive and pass with precision.

Donte Hepbrun - Jack

Hayward - Power forward

Why he is here:The freshman already has a college body and is a bulldozer with the ball in his hands. He has the ability to lead the league in scoring. Has a patented 15 foot jumper.

SECOND TEAM

PG-Tavares Marche, Sunland Baptist; SG-Franco Miller, Tabernacle Baptist; SG-Janeko Russell, Tabernacle Baptist; SF-Franklin Petion, St. Georges and C-Raymond Smith, Tabernacle Baptist.
