Swingers win Grand Bahama New Year's parade

THE Swingers Junkanoo Group emerged as the winner of the 2015 New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade in Grand Bahama, according to official results released on Tuesday by the Grand Bahama Junkanoo Committee.

The group received an overall score of 1,101 points, beating eight other groups in the A category. The New Life was second, with 1,005 points, ahead of Platinum Knights (955), Kingdom Culture (886), Superstar Rockers (868) and Bayshore Warriors (678).

Although The Showtime and Top Performers groups received 561 points and 540 points respectively, they were disqualified.

In the individual categories for division A, Best Banner went to Platinum Knights for their “The Central Bank of the Bahamas” with 272 points. The Swingers was second (244) and Superstar Rockers was third (218).

The Superstar Rockets enjoyed a clean sweep on Best Off-The-Shoulder andwere first and second in Best Free Dancer with 143 and 140 points from third place The Swingers (137).

The Swingers won Best Individual Piece with 285 points from Superstar Rockers (280) and Classic Dancers (253) while the Best Performance went to Platinum Knights (247 points) from Swingers (228) and New Life (218).

Swingers won Best Choreograph Dancers with 89 points, Kingdom Culture was second (83) and Platinum Knights third (82).

In the B category, the Bushwackers took first place with an overall score of 576 points, beating Sting (50) and Western Star (4).

The Best Banner went to Bushwackers with 91 points with Sting second with 78. Bushwackers also won Best Performance, receiving 149 points while in Best Choreograph Dancers Western Star was first with 37 points with Bushwackers second with eight.
