INVESTIGATORS believe that a woman recently found dead on a beach at Yamacraw might have committed suicide, police sources told The Tribune yesterday.

Police are waiting to receive the results of an autopsy before releasing the cause of death.

While they have not confirmed the woman’s identity, there was speculation on social media on Friday that she is a woman who was reported missing early last week.

On Friday, a person walking on St Andrews beach found the woman’s decomposed body.

At the time, Senior Police Commissioner Anthony Ferguson told the media: “We don’t know how the person got there or see anything that we can say points directly to injuries sustained at the moment.”

He said it appeared that the person had been dead for a few days before she was found because the body was decomposed.

Officers were seen interviewing residents in the quiet area moments after the woman’s remains were removed from the scene. They could not provide additional details about the incident.

On Friday, a man purporting to be the woman’s son took to Facebook and wrote: “Mommy, RIP I love you forever … you was my mommy and my daddy. No one loved me like you. I know you wanted to see me make it in life. That’s why I ain’t gon’ let you down, I (will) be very successful just for you … my beautiful queen.”

Mr Ferguson said he could not say if the missing woman was indeed the person found dead.
