Operators stop the Truckers

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association completed the first week of its regular season at the DW Davis Gymnasium Saturday night with last year’s runners-up Bommer Gee Lady Operators winning their first game.

The Lady Operators, who lost their season opener a week ago to the defending champions Career Builders Lady Cheetahs, took their frustration out on the Johnson Lady Truckers with an 86-73 victory.

In the feature game, the Super Value Cybots Queens also got into the winners’ column as they held off the hapless Dee Saints 73-56.

In the marquee game of the night, Chrishanda Rahming scored 23 points with six rebounds as Boomer Gee improved their record to 1-1.

Antenique Young had 15 points and four rebounds, Kaylisa Laing had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Diasti Delancey had 10 points and five assists and Keica Smith had just eight points, but pulled down 14 rebounds with four assists.

In a losing effort for the Truckers, who dropped to 1-1 as well, Janice Rolle had 12 points and 12 rebounds, Shantell Rolle and Latoya Rolle both had 11 points and six rebounds and former Lady Operator Suzette McKenzie added 11 points and five rebounds in her debut.

Cybots Queens 73,

Saints 56

Melisha Peterson, another former Lady Operator, scored 24 points with nine rebounds and six assists to lead Super Value as they climbed to 1-1.

Tracey Lewis had 13 points and seven rebounds and Vernisha Moss had 12 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

For the Saints, who remained winless in three games, Keva Barry had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Lateisha Charlton had 12 points and Lakeisha Rolle only had seven points, but came up with 11 rebounds.

The NPWBA is scheduled to be back in action this week with the following games:
