Before football fans across the country tune in to Super Bowl XLIX this Sunday, the battle for local football supremacy will be decided on the gridiron.

The 2015 Commonwealth American Football League Boil Fish Bowl will feature a matchup between the Fast Track Jets and the Orry J Sands Pros at the DW Davis playing field on Saturday (January 31).

Kickoff is at 1:30pm and organisers promise an “event” for its spectators and not just a football game.

“There’s been a lot of trash talking, a lot of words exchanged around and that is what football is all about, that great buildup to be decided on the field. Who wins or who loses is decided by your play between the lines. It will be a high-spirited, very competitive game,” said CAFL Commissioner Mel Ferguson. “At halftime we will have the punt, pass and kick competition as well as give-aways to some of our fans who have been with us all year.”

This year’s Boil Fish Bowl will be sponsored by the Crab House and Island Boys Promotions who have partnered with the CAFL.

Danny Ferguson, manager of the Crab House, said an investment in local sports is a means of community building.

“The Crab House considers it a pleasure to be affiliated with the CAFL. When we were invited we did not hesitate because we love to participate in local activities and especially sports, that brings everyone together,” he said.

“This weekend, on Super Bowl Sunday, we will host a tailgate party and followed by a watch party for the game. We will donate a part of the proceeds to the CAFL and we endeavour to continue to support them in any way we can.”

The Jets finished the season as pennant winners, suffering just one loss on the year.

After finishing last in the league in 2014, the Jets came into the 2015 season renewed and dominated all offensive statistical categories (scoring, rushing yards, passing yards, receiving yards).

Coach Tito Bethel feels that his team’s improvement came with his decision to place his team in the Bahamas Flag Football League during the CAFL offseason - this kept his players together and playing for over six months.

The Pros lost both head-to-head meetings with the Jets but return to the CAFL title game for the 11th consecutive season after they defeated the defending champion V8 Fusion Stingrays in the semi-finals.
