Positive things are happening

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I have had occasion to interact with government employees in four different areas over the last few weeks.

Firstly: Fox Hill National Insurance Office. My husband required an updated National Insurance Card.

He has some health challenges and it is not easy to take his photograph, eyes looking into the camera, etc. The professionalism, empathy, helpfulness and kindness shown by Mrs Evette Rolle and her entire staff were outstanding.

This wonderful attitude was also displayed by the security, Mr Alfred Pinder.

Secondly: Wulff Road National Insurance Office.

I knew a young gentleman who was having extreme difficulty in updating his card. I telephoned and spoke to the manageress, Mrs Sears, who demonstrated, knowledge, professionalism, kindness and understanding in her responses.

She directed this gentleman on the correct path and two weeks later, he had his new card in hand.

He was overheard telling a colleague “no one had ever been that helpful to him in his life”.

Thirdly: The Passport Office. I arrived at seven am and was near the front of the line.

The doors opened just before eight-thirty and I was out within 15 minutes. Why? Because of the outstanding efficiency of all the staff. My papers were seen by a gentleman by the name of Mr Neely. My own passport was in order, but I needed to return with my husband. I was informed, by Mr Neely, that due to my husband’s health challenges, I could return with him at any time. He would inform the security and I could come straight inside.

I did so at noon, and once again we were out within 15 minutes. I commend Mr Neely and all the staff for their efficiency, including the two security officers, Mr G Bodie and Mr Wellington Gilbert who were so helpful.

Last but not least – The Fox Hill Police Station. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Warren Johnson, is making a marked difference. Our neighbourhood feels the helpful presence, of both him and his team. ASP Warren Johnson is strictly professional, but one knows that he is human. We have met him several times and one thing we know, is that he delivers on his promises. When one listens to him, one realises that he is forward in his thinking and up to date with technology.

His wonderful ideas would certainly help to combat crime, but money is needed to put all into action.

To all of the above, I extend my thanks. Their behaviour is showing our young people what it is that makes a great nation: Respect for all individuals, understanding of their circumstances and extending the love that is within all of us.
