Tackling discrimination

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Thought it ironic that on one of the evening News programmes the AG Allyson Maynard was promoting the proposed (only to be presented if there is no opposition) amendments to the constitution on the day that the US Supreme Court gave its tremendous judgment on “equality of the sexes” in the US throwing open that no state can ban marriage between same sex partners.

It has to be seen in the context of the case – the claim that the person’s “equal rights were being trampled on” – I predict a case will be placed very soon in the US Supreme Court which will argue what is marriage?

The announcement from the US Supreme Court torpedoed totally Christie’s referendum idea as 100 per cent of us will surmise what has been granted in the US – same sex marriage must be allowed and coming very soon in The Bahamas. Try getting that past the gate?

Why is Perry Christie so frightened to present the referendum now and give the people the right to cast their opinion?

Surely he is not going to do the same as he did on the Gaming Referendum if the Rights Referendum did not come out as he wished?

Anyone who has read the Constitution acknowledges we guarantee everyone no discrimination — this is the crux of the issue.
