American men arrested over fishing haul

POLICE in Bimini arrested two American men on suspicion of breach of the Fisheries Act and failing to declare with the Department of Customs officials.

According to police reports, on July 4 at 5pm a team of law enforcement officers, while on marine patrol in the Port Royale area of South Bimini, arrested the two men after a search of their vessel uncovered a large number of fish, turtle meat and undersized conch.

It was also discovered that they had failed to clear Bahamas Customs.

The vessel and seafood were all confiscated.

Both men were taken into police custody.

Investigations are continuing.

If you only spend a weekend in the Northern Bahamas and see how many American boats come over and take tons of fish out our waters and return to the U.S. Not even paying for a hotel night. Tuna fish weighing over 100 pounds. She'll fish you name it.

Poaching by Americans is rampant in the northern Bahamas, especially here around Bimini. I hope a strong example is made out of these two criminals.
