AN inner-city community activist accused of being the aggressor in an altercation with police had the start of his trial delayed again.

Prosecution witnesses yesterday failed to appear before Magistrate Saboula Swain to give evidence concerning an alleged incident with Valentino “Scrooge” Brown. Brown’s initial trial scheduled for May 22 did not start for the same reason. The matter was adjourned to August 28.

Brown, of Lewis Street, appeared before Magistrate Swain in March facing four charges: disorderly behaviour, obscene language, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is claimed that the Market Street community leader acted in disorderly fashion and cursed police when they appeared at his home earlier this year. It is also claimed that Brown resisted and assaulted Police Constable 535 Rolle while the officer moved to arrest him.

Attorney Troy Kelman is representing Brown. He remains on $3,000 bail.
