AN 18-year-old man was charged with murder in the Freeport Magistrates Court yesterday.

Larry Amonte Artillus, of 95 Bonefish Street, appeared before Magistrate Rengin Johnson. It is alleged that on July 2, he caused the death of a 31-year-old man of Williams Town, Vernon Smith, aka Five-O.

The victim was found lying dead outside a black 2004 Ford Escape which had crashed in the bushes on Creswell Road.

Grand Bahama police initially classified the death as a traffic fatality. But after further investigations and a pathologist’s study, it was classified as a homicide as stab wounds found about the upper chest of the victim were considered the cause of death.

Artillus was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge and the matter was adjourned to September 29, when a preliminary inquiry will be held. He was represented by Simone Brown and was remanded to the Department of Corrections.
