Bahamas sweeps 100m finals in 15-16 girls’ division at 40th Miami Northwest Track and Field Classic

THE Bahamas has proven once again that it is a force to be reckoned with during a recent performance at the 40th Annual Miami Northwest Track and Field Classic.

The Bahamas swept the 100 metre finals in the 15-16 girls’ division, winning gold, silver and bronze in an exciting clash which included US and Jamaican athletes.

The gold medal was won by Devine Parker, the high school national champion in the 200m, and silver was secured by Kayneshia Carter.

The bronze was won by Gayneil Sands.

Parker and Carter are athletes of the Bahamas High Performance Sprint Club, coached by Olympian Pauline Davis-Thompson and Nick Dean.

“We are extremely proud of the way our girls are performing at this stage,” Dean said.

“Divine’s time of 11.90 seconds and Kayneshia’s 12.15 seconds are right were we would like for them to be as 9th graders.

“We are looking for them to show steady progress in their athletic development and expect big things from them in the seasons to come.”

The girls were accompanied by their teammates Angel Collie and Aliyah Adderley in a dominant victory in 4x100m relay.
