Man arrested moments after woman raped

POLICE arrested a 26-year-old man early yesterday morning, moments after he and another man allegedly raped a woman in an area off Gamble Heights.

According to police reports, shortly after 2am on Monday, the victim was walking home from a nightclub, when two men armed with a knife accosted her and forced her into a nearby house where they sexually assaulted her.

A short while later, officers from the Mobile Division on patrol in the area spotted two men fitting the description of the attackers. When the men saw the officers they ran in two separate directions.

The officers chased the suspects and were able to capture the 26–year-old suspect and took him into custody.

Police are still searching for the second male.

Investigations continue.

In other crime news, police are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects responsible for several armed robberies on Sunday night and Monday morning.

In the first incident, shortly before 11pm on Sunday, a male and a female were walking in the parking lot of a business establishment on JFK Drive, when two men armed with a handgun pulled up in a dark coloured Honda Accord and robbed them of a small amount of cash and two cell phones before speeding off.

In the second incident, shortly after 11pm, a man was sitting in a white Honda Accord in the parking lot of a service station on Fire Trail Road, when a man armed with a handgun robbed him of the vehicle and sped off.

In the final incident, shortly after 2.30am Monday, a man was driving on Carmichael Road in his gold Chevy Astro Van, license number 1078, when two men in a dark Honda Accord pulled in front of him and forced him to stop. One of the men got out of the Honda and robbed the man of his van before speeding off.

Police later recovered the van in the area of The Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

Investigations continue.
