Rotary Club South East Nassau. - On Wednesday, July 8, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean was a guest speaker at the Rotary Club of South East Nassau during its weekly meeting held at East Villa.

During his address, ACP Dean gave Rotarians an overview of the crime trends in New Providence and provided several crime prevention tips to those in attendance. ACP Dean gave Rotarians an overview of aspects the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s 2015 Policing Plan Crime Strategy to include Saturation Patrols, Community Policing and the many operations that targets criminals. ACP Dean also highlighted the many successes being made by the Force and reminded Rotarians that the business of fighting crime is not for the police alone, but it involves the participation all citizens and residents alike.

The Rotary Club of South East Nassau has been in existence for 39 years and is led by its President Dr Bridgette Rolle, who shares in the global vision of Rotary International, ‘Service Above Self’.

As the club’s newest president, Dr Rolle hopes to continue with ongoing club projects such as our award-winning Baby Think It Over Project, where electronic babies are placed in high schools to prevent teenage pregnancy; the Elizabeth Estates Backyard Gardening Project; the establishment of a Community Corps in Cat Island; our successful Get Moving Bahamas healthy living campaign where we assisted the ACE Diabetics to promote their healthy lifestyles; the donation of a Defibrillator to Doctor’s Hospital; the building of a Gazebo at the Naomi Christie Retirement Home and many more projects.

The club has also embraced the country’s youth, and to this end has sponsored the Rotaract Club of South East Nassau Centennial; Two Interact Clubs, one at St Andrew’s High School and the other at Doris Johnson High School; and One Earlyact Club located at Columbus Primary.

The club also regularly assists families identified by the Department of Social Services with meal packages and hot meals. There is a ‘Girls at Risk’ Mentoring Program where young girls are identified and given support. Additionally, we support the Salvation Army, the Cancer Society and the HIV AIDS Secretariat with their programs.

Finally, Dr Rolle and her team will continue to work within the ambit of DG Felix Stubbs’s mandate: “From Success to Significance” and the overall Rotary International Theme: “Be a Gift to the World”.
