18 Dominicans held for alleged fish poaching off Exuma

EIGHTEEN Dominicans aboard a fishing boat south west of Great Exuma have been detained by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on suspicion of poaching.

Their 100-foot, steel-hulled boat was allegedly filled with scale fish and crawfish caught in Bahamian waters. It wasn’t immediately clear on Sunday how much fish the Dominican-flagged vessel was carrying.

A Bahamian patrol boat and a plane are searching for four Dominican suspects aboard two skiffs who fled as their colleagues were being detained.

Last year, at least two Dominican fishing boats loaded with fresh catch were intercepted in Bahamian waters.

I salute and thank the efforts of the RBDF!

but now what....

they will get a small fine and be sent back home with their boat.

WE HAVE TO SEIZE THEIR GADDAMN BOATS! ! !

OTHERWISE NOTHING TO STOP THEM COMING BACK!

Excellent work! Keep it up, there are many more out there stealing from our country. The court must be harsh on these thieves.

Seize the boat but for god's sake don't let a Bahamian, who is knowingly fronting for Dominican's, buy the boat at auction for cheap, only to have it go out and do the same thing.

And what's going to happen to the crawfish on board. Please don't let it go to waste. Hold an auction and let wholesalers and restaurants buy it and freeze it to the season opens. The money raised should be given to BREEF, National Trust etc.

No one. I like the move made by a couple countries now to make safe the poaching vessel, then either burn it or sink it.

...... Dominicans poaching all year round and RBDF catches 3 boats in two years? .....

This is the first "token" Dominican boat caught this year. Like all past poaching apprehensions the crew will be given a stern court warning, insignificantly fined and they will be back to work before you can say "under the table payoffs destroying our country".

How is it justifiable and even remotely possible RBDF only caught two Dominican boats all of last year and none this year?

V. Alfred Gray is by far THE MOST ineffectual, useless, dishonest minister of fisheries this country has ever seen.
