FOLLOWING a rain delay which lasted for several hours, the Bahamas was able to continue their momentum from a quick start and held on for their second consecutive win in Davis Cup play.

The Bahamas scored a 3-0 win over Bermuda yesterday to move to 2-1 play thus far in pool play at the American Zone III Davis Cup tie in Panama City, Panama.

Bahamian ace Rodney Carey Jr got the team off to the start they needed with a straight sets win over Gavin Manders 7(8)-6(6), 6-3.

After getting shut out 3-0 by Guatemala on the first day of competition on Monday, the Bahamas rebounded to take out Trinidad & Tobago, winning 2-1.

In a match that took just an hour and 42 minutes, Carey scored four aces, won 85 per cent of first serve points and 48 per cent of second serve points in the opening set.

In set two he overpowered Manders with 89 per cent first serve points won while the Bermudian managed just 66 per cent.

In round two, rain hampered play between Kevin Major Jr and David Thomas, but he was awarded the 4-3 win.

In doubles play, team captain Marvin Rolle and Jamaal Adderley won in straight sets over Jenson Bascome and Neal Towson 7-5, 6-3.

Also on day three, Guatemala remained perfect with a 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.

The Bahamas will face Jamaica in their final match of pool play.

At the completion of the round robin, the winner of Pool A plays the runner-up of Pool B and vice versa in promotion playoffs, with the victors ascending to Americas Zone Group II for 2016. The teams participating in Pool A are Paraguay, Cuba, Honduras and Panama.

Last year, the Bahamas played out of Pool A, going undefeated in the round robin. However, when they advanced to the playoffs, the team of Rolle, top seed Devin Mullings, also from Grand Bahama, Adderley and Major, lost 2-1 to Puerto Rico and was denied the opportunity to be promoted to zone II.

It was a duplication of 2013 when the team of Rolle, Mullings, Adderley and Major went undefeated in Pool B, only to lose 2-0 to Paraguay in the playoffs.

The Bahamas was relegated to Zone III after losing 3-2 to Guatemala in July, 2009. This is the second string of appearances in Zone III for the Bahamas, who played there after getting relegated in July, 2005 by Colombia and played until June, 2007 with a 2-1 win over Puerto Rico.
