Celebration of Love festival on Saturday

By DONITRA DAVIS

BAHAMIAN actor Van Brown is organising the Celebration of Love Festival in Bain Town on Saturday, an annual community event designed to change the lives of families and children in impoverished neighbourhoods.

The event, at Bain Town Park, Dumping Ground Corner, from noon to 6pm, aims to promote healthy eating habits within the community, stress the importance and value of education and help families establish themselves financially while preparing for the future.

To help achieve this, the Festival will provide life-changing workshops and booths that include financial advice, tuition funding, nutritional counselling, fitness instruction, health and medical resources and career building. In addition there will be a toy booth, free books, clothing and shoe giveaways.

Mr Brown, who played Rev Clyde Ritchie in the Bahamian film, Children of God, has the support of corporate sponsors in Scotiabank, Disney and Coca-Cola. In addition to the specialist booths, there will be live performances and music by international and local artists, motivational speakers, food and refreshments and a variety of children’s entertainment, including a bouncy castle, basketball shootout, face painting and spelling competition.

Scheduled to appear are Minister of National Security Dr Bernard Nottage, Miss Bahamas, the Genesis Junkanoo Group, Brent Mason, 10 Natives of Los Angeles and local rapper Pharell.
