AFTER a day's rest, the Bahamas men's team returned to the American Zone III Davis Cup play on Friday in Panama with a defeat.

The Bahamas, riding a 2-0 win streak after losing their opener, suffered a setback as Jamaica pulled off a 2-1 victory. In the pivotal marathon doubles, the Jamaican team of Brandon Burke and Rowland Phillips held off Grand Bahamian Jamaal Adderley and team captain Marvin Rolle 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4.

In the singles play, Grand Bahamian Rodney Carey secured the opener 6-3, 6-4 over Daniel Harris. But in the second match, Phillips won 7-5, 6-0 over Kevin Major Jr.

With the loss, the Bahamas finished the round robin at 2-2 and are out of contention of promotion in the playoffs on Saturday. The Bahamas will remain in Zone III for another year – Jamaica and pool winner Guatemala will go on to play in the cross over playoffs to see who will be promoted.

The Bahamas had lost its opening match in the round robin 3-0 to Guatemala. They bounced back to defeat Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 before sweeping Bermuda 3-0.
