Cycling Club Bahamas. - Upcoming events:

Tomorrow - leaving 6am sharp from Harbour Bay Shopping Centre in front of First Caribbean Bank 30 miles headed West. In order to complete this ride it is recommended that you have done some recent cycling! Leaving P/I Bridges optional at the end! The pace will range from 18–20+mph, two-hour duration.

Sunday - leaving 6am sharp from Harbour Bay Shopping Centre in front of First Caribbean Bank 40-50 miles headed East. This ride is not recommended if you have not cycled recently or first timers! P/I Bridges optional at the end! The pace will range from 18–20+mph, 3-3.5 hour duration (cyclists are invited to join in anywhere along the route).

August 8-9 – Bahamas Cycling Invitational VIVA Cycling! Two-day event, Jaws Beach Parking Lot, Nassau, Bahamas. Teams from Bahamas, Columbia, Cuba & USA compete for Junior Championships!

September 5 - Potcakeman Sprint Triathlon, Jaws Beach, New Providence.

October 9-12 - Run For Pompey Marathon, Exuma www.runforpompey.com.

November 2015 - UWC Sprint/Olympic/Kids triathlon, Jaws Beach, New Providence, http://www.uwctriathlon.com.

November 7 - Conchman Sprint Triathlon, Taino Beach, Grand Bahama, http://www.conchman.com.

Morning rides west - Wednesday & Friday, 4:45am, Cable Beach Police Station, West Bay Street 20-mile ride route: Headed East to Montague & return. One-hour duration. Cyclists capable of 14+mph welcome. Ride leaves promptly! (Cyclists are invited to join in anywhere along the route). Afternoon rides west - Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving 5:30pm sharp, parking lot next to Lyford Cay Gas Station. 18 or 24 miles depending if you do second loop. This is an advanced cyclist’s ride. The pace will range from 20+mph. Intermediate 18-22mph, see Spyder.

Morning ride east - Tuesdays & Thursdays, leaving 5am sharp. Start/end Seagrapes Shopping Centre (under the big sign), East Prince Charles Drive: 1-1.5 hour duration. Cyclists capable of 14+mph welcome. Prince Charles Dr-Eastern Road-Shirley St-Church St-East Bay-Eastern Road- Prince Charles.

Please have lights attached to your bike.

Rotary Club of East Nassau. - As one of his last official presidential jobs, the Rotary Club of East Nassau Past President Elmer Lowe awarded Mayuri Decka with the “Rising Star” award. This award is presented to new members who go above and beyond and show exemplary Rotary characteristics shortly after joining the club. Mayuri responded to the humanitarian need in Nepal and organised a fundraising campaign which ultimately raised over $10,000 for Nepal. The event was so successful that a new club sponsored program was formed, GREAT (Global Rotary East Action Today) which will take charge in emergency situations such as Nepal. The club congratulates Mayuri for her great program and look forward to her continued participation in Rotary.

The Rotary Club of East Nassau was privileged to have the assistance of their Rotaract Club on their bi-weekly Fox Hill Run on July 18th. The RCEN program is celebrating it’s 40th year, and provides much needed groceries to individuals and families in Nassau. The program is currently headed by John Joseph, a relatively new Rotarian who has shown exemplary leadership.

Rotary Club of Nassau. - The Rotary Club of Nassau held the induction of officers at their home base, Luciano’s of Chicago on June 30th, 2015. On hand to participate and congratulate were DG Felix Stubbs and AG Karen Pinder (Bahamas East).

Decorated in style to celebrate the event, attendees enjoyed the usual great food and ambience of the location. An Appreciation award was presented to Sue Lawrence, Manager of Luciano’s, for the restaurant’s support and hosting of the club over the past years.

Outgoing President Sonia Miller pinned and welcomed President 2015-16, Dorothea Rae, who is reprising her role, having previously been President of the club in 2005 (the first female to take the club office). She then inducted her officers for the coming year.

Several awards were presented during the luncheon, including a Paul Harris presented to President Sonia by ARPIC Sheila Bethel, who was also the recipient of the club’s Rotarian of the Year Award.

Toastmasters Club 7178. - Under the theme “Achieving Excellence Together,” President Mikia Cooper and the newly elected officers of Healing Communicators Toastmasters Club 7178 were officially installed. On hand to conduct the installation ceremony was Area 60 Director TM Owen Hanna, assisted by Immediate Past District 47 Governor, DTM Anthony Longley.

Mr Branville McCartney, leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) was the keynote speaker.

Club meetings are held every Tuesday at 6pm at the Cancer Society of the Bahamas on Rusty Bethell Drive and members of the public are welcomed to attend.
