Bombers defeat Shockers 83-81

BETTY Cole Park came alive with a throng of fans as employees, family members and friends filled out the bleachers and surrounding area to cheer on the big game which saw the Banqueting Bombers defeat the Housekeeping Shockers 83-81.

Micheal Bain Jr was crowned championship MVP, leading the Bombers to victory Vaughn Musgrove was named coach of the year for the second straight year Quinsent Javen was named rookie of the year and Tyrell Griffin was named sportsman of the year. Livingstone Munnings repeated as the league’s MVP for 2015.

Althea Fields, director of employee programmes and co-organiser of the employee tournament, believes the event has helped to increase team spirit overall and foster an improved work environment.

“Of all the company-sponsored sports events each year, I look forward to this one the most. Perhaps because its intended objectives are clearly met.

“The Interdepartmental Basketball League was designed to provide employees with an opportunity to engage in physical activity while fostering great sportsmanship and healthy relationships between departments.

“It is evident that the support, team spirit and camaraderie grows each year. The teams pursue us to find out from early in the year when the league will begin. They initiate putting their teams together and commence practice long before the league begins.

“Additionally, the teams and their coaches are always very excited and devoted, and their fan-base as evidenced by the overwhelming support at the championship game has noticeably increased.”
