‘BEAT THE HEAT’

TOURNEY

BRAJAXBA Tennis is scheduled to host its “Beat the Heat” tennis tournament at the Gym Tennis Club, Winton Meadows, on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament will feature age groups 6s, 8s, 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s. The 6s division will use the red balls, 8s the orange balls and 10s the green dot balls. The 12s thru 18s will play with regular tennis balls. The format for play will be round robin for all age groups, which afford each child a minimum of two matches. The pool winners would advance to a knock-out draw to determine the age group winner.

This event is in preparation for the BLTA Junior Nationals at the end of June and the Junkanoo Bowl ITF event in the first week of July. The tournament director is Bradley Bain, who can be reached at brajaxtennisbahamas@gmail.com or call 357-5580 for more information.

NATIONALS

FRESH off the hosting of its Bahamas Youth National Track and Field Championships at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium over the weekend, Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations will be back in action this weekend as the National Junior Track and Field Championships are slated for 5:30pm Friday and 1pm Saturday. Competition will be held in the under-18 and under-20 divisions for boys and girls.

NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations has announced that its Senior National Track and Field Championships will be held at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium June 26-27.

The meet will serve as the final trials for athletes wishing to compete at Senior Central American and Caribbean Championships and IAAF World Championships.

BLUE MARLINS

CLASSIC

THE Blue Marlins Track Classic is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium. The event, which will feature Bahamian world-class triple jumper Leevan ‘Superman’ Sands, is set to begin at 5pm. Competition will be held in the under-15, under-18, under-20, professional and masters categories. Cash prizes will be offered to the winning clubs.

BLTA JR NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has announced that its 2015 Junior National Championships is scheduled for June 29 to July 3 at the National Tennis Center.

The categories will include the boys and girls under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18. Doubles will also take place in the under-12, under-14 and under-18 divisions for boys and girls. Registration is being conducted at the NTC. The tournament director is Barbara Carey.

ITF JUNKANOO

BOWL

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association is preparing for the hosting of the International Tennis Federation’s Junkanoo Bowl. It’s scheduled for July 4-11 at the National Tennis Federation. The Junkanoo Bowl is an event that will bring down international competitors from around the world in a series of age group competition in both singles and doubles. Local players are expected to qualify from their participation in the BLTA’s Junior Nationals.

BSC CLASSIC

POSTPONED

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that it’s 2015 Doc’s Pharmacy Cycling Classic has been postponed. The cycling event was scheduled for Saturday in the National Cycling Track at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The BSC and the New Providence Cycling Association is working on putting the event on at a later date to be announced.
