Boxers to bring home the bronze

AFTER booking their tickets for the Pan American Games, all three boxers lost their semifinal matches at the Qualifying Tournament in Mexico on Sunday.

Carl Hield, Rashield Williams and Kieshno Williams will all be coming home as bronze medalists.

Additionally, assistant coach Valentino Knowles was able to secure his coaching certification and is now eligible to coach at the international level. The former amateur boxer, who turned pro only to be saddled with a gun shot injury that has hampered his career, is in his first year coaching.

After qualifying for the Pan Am Games that will be held in Toronto, Canada from 10-26, Hield lost to Mexican Marvin Cabrera in the 69 kilogram class, while Williams was beaten by Joe DeJesus from Brazil in the 64 kilogram class and Major, in the super heavyweight dividion, lost to Clayton from the US Virgin Islands.

The team, coached by Andre Seymour and Knowles, is scheduled to return home today. Efforts to reach the team mmebers today was unsuccessful.
