A 42-year-old Freeport man accused of a brutal attack on a woman last week in Grand Bahama was charged on Tuesday in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court.

Leon Romeo Rahming, a resident of Melbourne Crest, Hudson Estates, was arraigned on attempted murder and attempted robbery charges in Court Three before Magistrate Rengin Johnson.

He was not required to enter a plea to the charges, which are indictable offences.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on June 3 in Freeport when police were alerted to the discovery of a badly injured woman found in the vicinity of Torcross Road, behind a school.

The victim had multiple bruises and wounds on her body and was taken by EMS personnel to the Rand Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

Rahming held his head down as he was being escorted by police officers to the courthouse.

He was not represented by counsel and the matter was adjourned to August 25, when a preliminary inquiry will be held to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

He was denied bail and has been remanded to the Department of Correctional Services in New Providence until then.
