American held after failure to declare $30,000

AN American man from Michigan is in police custody for failing to declare nearly $30,000 in cash while at the airport on Saturday.

According to police reports, around 8.30am, the man was returning to the United States, when United States Customs and Border Patrol officials detained him at the United States Pre-Clearance Departure Lounge at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA).

The man was detained for failing to declare $27,696, police said.

The traveller was handed over to the police and is expected to appear in court early this week to be formally charged.

Armed robberies

POLICE are searching for several suspects responsible for four separate armed robberies that occurred this weekend.

In perhaps the most bizarre incident, police reported that just after 11.30pm on Friday, a pizza delivery woman was robbed of an order of chicken and two large pizzas.

Police said the driver was delivering pizza on Butler Street in Nassau Village when persons inside a dark Honda robbed her before speeding away.

Police also reported that shortly after 10pm Friday, a man was at Purpose Way in Ridgeland Park when a man armed with a handgun robbed him of two cell phones, a tablet and cash before fleeing on foot.

Then shortly after 11pm, a man was at Sisal Road, when the occupants of a silver Mercedes Benz robbed him of his green 2002 Honda vehicle license plate number 225202 and sped off.

In the final incident, shortly after 1am Saturday, a woman was on Dawson Street off Soldier Road when the occupants of a green Honda vehicle robbed her of a champagne coloured Nissan Primera vehicle, license plate number 284060, and sped off.

Investigations are ongoing.
