National teams named for Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships

THE Bahamas Golf Federation has released the names of players who have been selected to represent the Bahamas at both the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships and the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships.

The CAGC is scheduled to be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, July 26 to August 1, while the CAJGC is set for July 5-9 in St Croix, US Virgin Islands.

At the CAGC, the Bahamas will join nine other member countries of the Caribbean Golf Association at the Half Moon Golf Resort & Spa and the Cinnamon Hill Golf Club.

The Bahamas will be competing in all of the divisions with the following players selected to the various teams:

Hoerman Cup for regular players - Benjamin Davis Jr, Thomas Bethel, Devaughn Robinson, Asif Robinson, Elijah Delancy and Nolan Johnson

  • Davis Jr is the BGF’s 2014 national amateur champion and a repeated member of Team Bahamas for both the CAGC and CAJGC national teams.

  • Bethel is a repeat BGF national amateur champion and currently the BGF’s 2015 national amateur champion who has represented the Bahamas on numerous CAGC and CAJGC national teams.

  • Robinson is a five time former member of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC and CAGC national teams.

Asif Robinson has been on numerous CAJGC national teams and is on his second CAGC national team.

  • Delancy is considered a naturally gifted raw talent making his debut on the CAGC national team, while Johnson has been on several CAJGC national teams and is also making his debut on the CAGC national team.

George Teale Cup for ladies - Inecia Rolle, Taneka Sandiford and Brianne Robinson

  • Rolle is the winner of the BGF’s 2015 President’s Cup, who has been on several CAJGC national teams and a former contender for the 2015 Bahamas’ representative spot in the 2015 PureSilk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

  • Sandiford is a standout on numerous CAJGC national teams, a repeat member of the George Teale Cup and a former contender for the 2015 Bahamas’ representative spot in the 2015 PureSilk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

  • Robinson is the winner of the BGF Ladies’ 2014 national amateur champion/President’s Cup competition and a former member of the 2014 George Teale Cup.

Mid Amateur Cup for males 35 years ad over - Peter McIntosh and John McIntosh

  • Peter McIntosh is a multiple BGF national amateur champion and equally a repeat member of Hoerman Cup teams and his cousin John McIntosh is a first time CAGC national team member.

Senior Cup for men 50 years and over - Christopher Harris and D Shane Gibson

  • Harris and Gibson, are former title winners of the BGF National Amateur Championship, Hoerman Cuppers and Mid Amateur contenders. The alternates are Horace Miller and George Swann, both of whom were members of the CAGC national teams.

Super Senior Cup for males 60 years and older - Vernon Wells and Bobby Rose

  • For more than a decade, Grand Bahamians Wells and Rose have combined to play on various senior and super senior teams. Their alternates are Bill Williams and Ambrose Gouthro, a combined novice team with collective outstanding talents and skills.

When the team leaves on July 26 for Jamaica, Harry Fountain will be the coach and Fred Wright will serve as the team’s administrator.

As for the CAJGC team, the Bahamas will join nine other member countries in competition at the Carambola Golf and Country Club.

The members of Team Bahamas are as follows:

Boys 16-17 - Asif Robinson and Ryan Coerbell

Robinson is a numerous times repeat member of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC national team and is making his final appearance as a member of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC national team.

Coerbell is also a repeat member of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC national team.

Girls 16-17 - Inecia Rolle

As the lone representative, Rolle is the title winner of the BGF’s 2015 President’s Cup, who has represented the Bahamas numerous times on the CAJGC national teams and is a former contender for the 2015 Bahamas’ representative spot in the 2015 PureSilk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Boys 14-15 - Xavier Robinson and Cameron Riley

Robinson and Riley are both former members of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC national teams.

Girls 14-15 - Tynesha Tynes, a former member of Team Bahamas’ 2014 CAJGC national team.

Boys 11-13 - Benjamin Knowles is making his debut as a member of Team Bahamas’ CAJGC national team.

Girls 11-13 - Ashley Michel is a former member of the 2014 CAJGC national team.

The team manager/coach for the team is Alena Hutchindon and Ian Coerbell will serve as a coach. The team is scheduled to leave for St Croix, USVI, on July 5.
