THE Grand Bahama Regatta committee is on a mission to revive the Grand Bahama Regatta. Coincidentally, this goes hand in hand with the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage’s mission to revive the art of sculling in The Bahamas. As a result, the Brewery recently donated a cheque to the committee to assist with putting on this year’s regatta.

“We’re proud to receive this donation,” said Chervita Campbell, chairman of the Grand Bahama Regatta Committee. “Since we’ve began our revival the Brewery has been a major supporter of our regattas. They know the importance of our heritage with this national sport, they travel to all of the Family Islands supporting regattas, and we know their support will encourage others throughout Grand Bahama to join us.”

The Brewery and its owners have always seen regattas as something that is truly Bahamian, like their beers - so they take pleasure in supporting their continued success. “We’re proud to support the Grand Bahama Regatta because we want everyone in Grand Bahama to know what ‘regatta time’ is,” said Clayton Russell, assistant general manager at Bahamian Brewery and Beverage GB.

“Not only that, but regattas have given us the unique opportunity to bring back our boss’ love of sculling. This year we will again host our Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling races and we’re calling for scullers from West End to Sweeting’s Cay to show off their skills to the crowds.”

This year’s sculling races for Grand Bahama are scheduled for July 18 as the official regatta races finish. The brewery will also pre-empt the races by having sculling boats parade through the streets of Grand Bahama on July 16 to get residents excited about the regatta. Winners of the sculling races will also be flown to Nassau for the Championship ‘Man in the Boat’ race at Fort Montagu. “Helping with regattas in The Bahamas is very important to us, and being able to help out with the Grand Bahama Regatta is even more special as this is where our brewery is located,” said Russell. “July isn’t too far away so we hope all Grand Bahamians will come out to support the regatta and the sculling races.”
