Klay and Mychel Thompson become first pair of brothers to win NBA title and D-League championship in same season

THE Golden State Warriors are the 2015 NBA Champions thanks in large part to the contributions from the “Splash Brothers” but there is another fraternal relationship that took centre stage after this prestigious feat.

Klay and Mychel Thompson became the first pair of brothers to win an NBA title and D-League championship in the same season while playing for the same organisation. Both players had impressive seasons and were equally as integral to their team’s success.

Klay made his first All-Star appearance and a Third team all NBA selection, while averaging career highs in points, assists and shooting a career best three-point percentage, while Mychel posted career highs in every statistical category while playing for Golden State’s D-League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors.

Klay, who tied the league record for most points in a quarter this season (37), averaged 18.6 points per game during Golden State’s dominant championship run and made great strides on both sides of the ball as he elevated himself into the upper echelon of shooting guards in the NBA.

Mychel, who went undrafted, was able to find himself a home in Santa Cruz as a valuable contributor all season after spending time in the NBA with the Cavaliers and their D-League affiliate Erie Bayhawks. He averaged 14.2 points per game on 42 per cent shooting.

Winning is in the pedigree of both players as they are the sons of two time NBA champion and Bahamian basketball legend Mychal Thompson.

Always a strong presence in the Bahamas, both Mychal and Klay are frequent participants in the annual Jeff Rodgers Summer Basketball Camp, while Mychel was a member of the Bahamas’ national team at the 2014 Centrobasket tournament.
