OLD Bahama Bay once again walked away as winners of the West End 5th Annual Snapper Fishing Tournament on Saturday.
On hand to briefly address the crowd was Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe, MP for West Grand Bahama, who said the honouree, James ‘Jimmy’ Bowleg, was worthy of being recognised during the fishing tournament.
Bowleg was known for being the first bone-fishing guide and active in the boating business all his life.
During his remarks, Wilchcombe said that even if they did not win, the participants should remember that they are building brotherhood, friendships and partnerships which will all contribute to building a wonderful Bahamas.
With the total fish weight of 673.9 pounds and snapper weight of 633 pounds, the team of Garvin Green, Neil Stubbs, Kenneth Christie and Rev. Lawrence Hepburn repeated their performance last year.
The second place winners were Coffee on the Bays/Foleys with a total fish weight of 497 pounds and snapper weight of 435.4 pounds. This team also walked away with the bragging rights of catching the biggest fish at 15.6 pounds.
MJ McQueen was third with total fish weight of 349 pounds and snapper weight of 314 pounds, and fourth was Passing Wind II with a total weight of 337.4 pounds and snapper weight of 319.7 pounds.
Also on hand to take in the festivities and mingle with the visitors and residents alike were Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Fred Mitchell and Minister for Grand Bahama, Dr Michael Darville.
Entertainment included RBPF Pop Band and KB.
