BAHAMIAN photographer and journalist Eric Rose has become the first foreigner to win a top prize in a prestigious photography competition in China.

Mr Rose won the still-life category in the Ying Shi Ju (Chinese for ‘taking photos, telling story, being together’) contest, which has been running for 12 years.

His win was even more noteworthy because he had two photographs in the finals, both taken in the Bahamas and the winning on being taken in San Salvador.

Mr Rose is a Senior Information Officer at the Bahamas Information Services and is currently in Beijing pursuing his International Masters in International Communications at the Communications University of China, through a scholarship awarded by the Chinese government. He is also the Class Monitor/President and is active in his university’s community, including being the first non-Mandarin-speaking host of the university’s New Year’s Gala.
