REGATTA

CAT ISLAND

FESTIVAL

THE Cat Island Sailing Club Association is scheduled to hold its annual Cat Island Day Festival from noon until on July 4. The event will be held at the Cultural Village on Arawak Cay.

This year’s Cat Island Day will be held in honour of Herbert L King, one of the pioneers in sloop sailing in Cat Island. He was from Knowles, Cat Island. This is one of the fundraising events for the upcoming Cat Island Regatta. The 59th annual regatta is slated to be held in New Bight July 31 to August 3.

The Cat Island Day Festival will feature Lassie Doh Boys, Veronica Bishop, DMac and DJ Golddigger.

“This year’s regatta will be the most exciting,” president Pat Strachan said. “The top A, B and C class boats will be there. We will have the best entertainment. So we are looking forward to every Cat Islander at the Cultural Village on July 4 to help us raise funds to help host the regatta.

“Some of our goals are to continue renovations to the club in New Bight, awarding scholarships and to begin working on the community and cultural centre in New Bight.”

BOWLING

DELOITTE &

TOUCHE ARE

CHAMPS

THE final round of Financial Bowling League playoffs was completed with Deloitte & Touche crushing the defending champions Strike Force 4-0 in a best-of-7 championship series.

The top players for Deloitte were Carl Rolle, who averaged 179 over three games, Corey Bruney with 177 for 4 games and Jamal Ijeoma with 166 over 4 games.

The MVP award, however, went to Bonnette Knowles, who has a 136 league average, played only two games in the finals but toppled the pins for games of 170 & 184 thereby almost single-handedly giving Deloitte & Touche two wins.

The Strike Force was led by an exceptional performance from Greg Taylor, who averaged an amazing 215 over the series. Taylor had good help from Kevin B Williams, but the balanced attack from Deloitte was too overwhelming for Strike Force to overcome.
