WHEN the All-Eleuthera Regatta returns to Governor’s Harbour this weekend, the ASUE Draw will be playing a pivotal role in the sponsorship.

According to Rev Dr Philip McPhee, consultant in the Ministry of Local Government and one of the organisers, they are extremely appreciative of the contribution of ASUE Draw, who has agreed to put on a mega skipper’s party on Wednesday night at the Sunset Restaurant in Governor’s Harbour.

The event is scheduled to take place immediately following the Methodist Church 7pm Wednesday.

“This weekend, we will see the return of the Governor’s Harbour Regatta after a break for almost 15 years,” said McPhee of the four-day event. “We wish to express our gratitude to the government of the Bahamas, especially our Prime Minister and Minister V Alfred Gray, who is responsible for regattas and Damian Gomez, the Member of Parliament, for their overwhelming support in bringing back the All-Eleuthera Regatta.

“It promises to be probably one of the most funded regattas in terms of the prizes for the boats and sailors. This regatta truly announces the return of dignity of sloop sailing in terms of the financial support. We have been struggling for many years to bring back the dignity in terms of what sailors ought to get and this regatta sets a tremendous pace in terms of recognising the boat owners and sailors for their contribution to the sport.”

While saluting the government for their tremendous support, McPhee said ASUE Draw has decided to make a substantial contribution as well to the regatta and will be putting on a first class skippers party that everybody in attendance will remember for a long time.

“This skippers party will be a first class party where sailors will be able to come and dress in fine clothing to receive not only their finances that night, but also to assure them of a Class A sit down party,” McPhee said. “We are very thankful to CEO DeShone Kemp and others who are going to make this event one that all involved in sailing in Eleuthera will be very proud of.”

Once the formalities are done, it will come down to sailing in Governor’s Harbour with the competition starting 10am Thursday with a back-to-back series for the C Class. That will be followed by a B Class race. Then on Friday, there will be two B Class races and an A Class. The final day will feature a C, B and A Class race consecutively.

More than 20 boats are expected to participate in what is being billed as the second largest regatta that will be held for the year.
