EDITOR, The Tribune.
On page A3 of Saturday’s 21st February issue of The Nassau Guardian appeared an article under the heading “Gray: Some PLP backbenchers need to revaluate political futures.”
It really amazes me that over the past year or so, whenever the PM is criticised by whomever, One V Alfred Gray is at the front defending the PM. I can say without fear of contradiction that the PM Perry Gladstone Christie is more capable and able to defend himself far better than Gray will ever be able to do and I am sure that Minister Gray is aware of this also.
If my assumption is correct then there must be an ulterior motive for his actions. Can it be that he is looking for a higher position? Or trying to hold onto the one that he has? I am inclined to think that it is the latter. In his present position, he is way beyond his limited capabilities; because in my humble opinion this man is the worst Minister of Agriculture that this country has seen since the inception of the two party system of governance in this nation.
It would appear that Minister Gray like Rip Van Winkle had been asleep not for 20 years but 50 and is still politically disoriented. You said that if Rollins and Co were in another party they would now be history as they would have been expelled long ago.
Are you serious? Were you around in 1965 when the late Paul Adderley, Orville Turnquest, Spurgeon Bethell and others were expelled from the PLP by the late Lynden Oscar Pindling? Now closer to you, where were you in mid-1984 when the man you are trying to defend and his side kick one Hubert A Ingraham were given their walking tickets and, yes, again by Pindling? The last expulsions by Pindling were Wallace-Whitfield and seven others in 1970. The expulsion of Adderley and Co resulted in the formation of The NDP; but that of Whitfield and his seven supporters resulted in the dissolution of the NDP and the creation of the Free PLP, FNM, BDP, SDP, FNDM and back to the FNM; so you see, Mr Gray, the PLP was expelling members for disagreeing with their chief long before the FNM came into existence, by the way minister, the first expulsions from the FNM were in 1973 the late Sir Roland Symonette, the first Premier of this nation, Cleophas Adderley, the first black MP for the City of Nassau district, Michael Lightbourne, the first FNM MP for Long and Ragged Islands, and yours truly, the first FNM MP for Marsh Harbour.
And for your information Mr Gray we were expelled for fighting for the wishes of my Constituency, that is why an MP is elected by a constituency, to be their voice in parliament, not the voice of the leader or the Party, and freedom of speech is the backbone of democracy.
When people like you, Mr Gray, are seeking election to Parliament you are very humble with hats in your hands you go into your constituencies begging, sometime on bended knees, for votes; but as soon as you are elected you become drunk with power and act like demi-gods forgetting that you are only servants and the electorate are your bosses, your mandate as an MP is to carry out the wishes of your constituents and represent them to the best of your ability, not your own wishes or the wishes of your Leader or party. Rollins, Wells and Co are simply doing their best for their constituents and the country, not themselves.
If our leaders and MPs can come together and do that which is good for the nation and not themselves we, as a people, will not be burdened with crime and all other ills that accompanies corruption and greed. I humbly beseech you to do whatever you can to better the conditions for your constituents that you represent and the farmers of this nation who are becoming extinct under your stewardship of the ministry of Agriculture. From where I sit I can see BAMSI being yours and the PLP’s walking ticket. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

It hit me today that he and the PM are one and the same, no substance, never know anything that's going on, and they love the sound of their own voice
