Their storybook season and playoff run ended this weekend, but a dynamic trio of Bahamians led the Niagra College men’s basketball programme to a historic season.

The Knights fell in the opening round of the Ontario Collegiate Athletics Association playoffs, 99-84, on the road to Seneca College Saturday night in Ontario, Canada.

Delroy Grandison, Marako Lundy and Tenerro Ferguson figured prominently for the team much of the season and that trend continued into the playoffs.

Grandison finished with a team high 26 points (12-17 from the field), Lundy added 14 points and Ferguson chipped in with 11.

After they missed the playoffs in last season, the Knights rebounded from a slow start to rally for an 8-10 record, no.6 in the Western conference and earned a spot in the OCAA playoffs.

Seneca finished the regular season 13-7, third in the East and advance to the OCAA provincial championship hosted by Durham College, March 6-8.

The Knights won just three games last season, but returned to the post-season under first year head coach Keith Vassell.

The Knights were powered down the stretch by the return of Lundy, a fourth year player on the wing who averaged 15.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in the final eight contests once he returned from injury.

Grandison, in his first year with the programme, averaged 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

Ferguson was a key reserve for the Knights, averaging six points per game in seven appearances.

Grandison was named the SAC athlete of the week three times over the course of the season while Lundy was the most recent recipient of the award for his play down the stretch.

The trio are all local products of Noble Preparatory Academy.

The connection between and Niagra College continues to produce top flight basketball talent for the Canadian institution and provide Bahamian student athletes with an education.

Geno Bullard is the founder and serves as the president of NPA and is also the international recruiter for the entire Caribbean region for Niagra College.

NPA has academic ties with Ridley, Niagra and Brock University.

“Noble Preparatory is just a station to get these students ready for the next level,” Bullard said, “I expect them to carry on the tradition that we have established here. These guys are well prepared and they are very talented in basketball. They are ready for any task that comes their way. They should be able to navigate through any obstacle that they encounter so it is no surprise they excelled thus far.”
