Little Harbour development

I am writing to you concerning the current plan by Winding Bay/Southworth Development to put a marina, store and snack bar in the small, residential community of Little Harbour.

This is a quiet, peaceful settlement of single family homes on one of the only protected anchorages in South Abaco.

It is an unspoiled and ecologically fragile environment. It cannot absorb a 44 slip marina without subjecting it to serious danger from increased boat traffic as well as fuel and septic waste.

I don’t believe if we were to buy a home in Winding Bay that we could open a marina, store and restaurant there.

Why is it permissible for Mr Southworth to come to Little Harbour and turn a single family home into the same thing. He will be taking up a large portion of the harbour as well as removing many long standing private moorings.

And all of this will be “members only”, not for the use of the residents, local Bahamians or the many cruisers who have visited this beautiful spot for decades.

I implore you to consider the negative impact a development of this size will have on our community and its environment.

There is a single dirt road access to this settlement and this construction and the traffic created will make it difficult for the residents to get to their homes.

Surely we can all see that the size of this proposed plan is totally out of proportion to the community. We ask that reason prevail before our precious harbour is damaged and altered forever.
