AS HE heads into the post-season, Jaraun “Keno” Burrows’ play continues to see him ranked as one of the best professional basketball players in Sweden.

For the year, Burrows averaged 20.3 points, eight rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 blocks per game in 31 contests, to lead LF Basket-Luela to a fourth place finish in the Swedish Premier League.

Scoring

Burrows finished second in the league in scoring and blocked shots, ninth in rebounding and ninth in steals.

In the regular season finale on Tuesday night, Burrows finished with 29 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in an 88-85 win over Sundsvall.

They finished the season with a win-loss record of 23-11 overall, 2.5 games out of first place.

His father, James Burrows, said his son delivered a valiant effort this season despite trying circumstances.

“This in spite of multiple player injuries on his team, suffering the tragic death of his grandmother who was near and dear to him and playing in one of the coldest cities on the planet,” he said. “In fact he has been on a tear in the last six games, in particular since losing his grandmother due to her tragic and untimely passing in early January.”

Burrows spent last season with Tapiolan Honka, of the Finnish Korisliiga. In 43 games he averaged 19 points and seven rebounds per game. He went on to be named the “Centre of the Year” during the Korisliiga Awards and was also selected as a member of the All-Tournament second team at the same position.

He reflected on the honour during the offseason in an interview with The Tribune.

“That is the most significant award that I have received in my entire career,” he said “Based upon the fact that my goal is to always be able to excel in whatever league I play in, I always want to try to be the MVP or make the All-Tournament team.

Honour

“I feel a few times in the other leagues that I’ve been on, I haven’t gotten the due credit, but after so much hard work, I think it’s now paying off for me. Being from the Bahamas, you are going up against so many good European and American players, so it’s really a honour to be able to earn this award.”

Prior to Finland, Burrows spent two seasons in the Swiss LNA league with the Starwings club. He averaged 17.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

His season was highlighted by a 33 point, 11-rebound performance in a win over Neuchatel.

Since graduating from Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in 2008, he has played professionally in Switzerland (with Starwings), Slovakia (Rieker KN), Sweden (Sodertalje) and with the Music City Stars of the American Basketball Association.
