BASKETBALL

NPBA PLAYOFFS

THE New Providence Basketball Association kicked off the other half of its playoff series on Wednesday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium with the defending champions, Commonwealth Bank Giants, and the PJ Stingers winning the John Archer divisional double header.

In the opener, the Giants easily defeated the Double R Services Ltd Cleaners 96-67 as Mark Hanna (10 rebounds) and Kevin Hinsey (seven rebounds) both had 18 points. Elvardo Burrows and Samuel Johnson both had 10 points; Michael Bain and Stephen Miller both had eight and Lyndrick Storr and Patrick Brice both had seven.

The Cleaners got a game high 26 points from Raynardo Minus and 13 each from Jorann Adderley and Rashad Woodside.

In the feature contest, the Stingers knocked off the Y-Care Wreckers 93-74 as Able Joseph scored 21 points with nine rebounds; Daniel Bullard had 15 points; Vernon Stubbs had 13 points; Kemsey Sylvetre had 12 points and Devon Ferguson chipped in with 10 points.

For the Wreckers, Lorenzo Carter scored 17 points and Leon Bain added 16 points.

RUGBY

NATIONAL SELECTION GAME

On Saturday at 3pm at the Winton Rugby Centre, the Bahamas Rugby Union will play a national team selection game. With only a week to go until the home international game against Bermuda, the coaches will be using this opportunity to pick their final squad.

The national team will play a friendly match against a team combined of players from Baillou, Buccaneers and Cuckoos. All clubs are asked to support the national team. Manoli, according to Elystan Miles, will be putting up two cases of beer for the winning team.
