Clubs and Societies - March 20, 2015

Anglican Church Men. - The Anglican Church Men “Sons of Thunder” Choir will celebrate ten years as a group this coming Sunday March 22nd at 6:30 p.m at St. George Anglich Church. All are invited to attend.

Carver Garden Club. - The historic Carver Garden Club continues to tell its story as it has for the past 69 years.

Back in 1946, few intrepid women of colour saw the need to come together socially to build stronger roots to advance themselves – and to raise a standard for young women to follow. They named their garden club after George Washington Carver, renowned American Negro Agriculturalist and Agronomist who taught at Tuskegee University, and who is said to have traced his roots back to The Bahamas.

On Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, the club story will host its Annual Flower Show under the patronage of Lady Marguerite Pindling, Governor General, at the Queen’s College Auditorium on Village Road, Nassau.

Every year, many followers of the club look forward to the show and seeing the latest in floral design techniques. They look forward to being better educated about the latest plant cultivation methods, purchasing flowers and basking in an atmosphere of elegance and hospitality.

This year, the club invites the public who have yet to experience its annual show. Members compete to produce impressive floral arrangements, with each winner receiving a ribbon.

Club president Jacquelyn Sawyer said: “We are so honoured that Her Excellency, Lady Marguerite Pindling, has agreed to have this year’s Carver Garden Club Annual Flower Show held under her distinguished patronage. We realise that as a historic club we are marching in the footsteps of our club founders who have blazed a trail of excellence for us to follow; and we invite the public to come out to see the creativity of our club on display.”

Irish Bahamian Association. - While St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide, its origin lies in the beautiful country of Ireland, the Emerald Isle, and began as a day to honour Ireland’s patron saint - St Patrick. This year, the Irish Bahamian Association decided to commemorate Paddy’s Day in a particularly special way by making charitable donations to two local community-based, non-profit organisations: The Bahamas Association for Social Health (BASH) and Hands for Hunger.

Representatives from both organisations expressed sincere appreciation for the unexpected monetary donations from the Irish Bahamian Association. Association spokesperson Brian Crick explained that both organisations have outstanding reputations and a history of providing valuable services, making tangible differences in the Bahamian community. He added that the donations are funded by the Association’s participation at the annual International Culture Fair.

Helen Davis, longstanding member of the Association added: “For many years, the Irish Bahamian Association has been giving back to the community that we now call home. We remain committed to spreading Irish cheer and making positive differences wherever we can.”

The association is comprised of Irish citizens and those of Irish decent and their families living in The Bahamas. Anyone seeking more information can email irishbahamianassociation@gmail.com.

Kiwanis Club of Fort Montagu. - The 18th annual Easter egg hunt will be held by the Kiwanis Club on Saturday, April 4, on the grounds of the Mall at Marathon. This event will be open to children aged three to seven and the club expects to have many happy hunters. Each year, stores in the mall and friends bring joy to the faces of hundreds of children by sponsoring golden eggs, each worth at least $100.

There will also be lots of other prizes and tasty treats for sale. There will be fun and games for the entire family. For more information, contact Aldeka Thompson or George Bethelon 324-6238 or 422-4512.

Looks like a very busy schedule! I think these people are great and their work has real value. I'm sure the meetings will be very interesting. The history behind this is fascinating and we should all learn about it. http://articole.toptablete.ro/lumea-m...">anca
